Here's how it works:

• Airline personnel register with AeroPASS; registration includes capturing fingerprint and employee photo.
• Each participating crew member is provided a Personal Identification Verification (PIV) card containing vital statistics, photo image and fingerprint.
• At TSA-approved airports, crew members enter through security gate.
• A handheld biometric reader is located at each access point. The reader provides validation using PIV by matching the finger print and photograph on the card with that of the individual seeking access.
• AeroPASS validates the card through Public Key Interaction (PKI). A match of the biometric prints and a valid certificate in addition to the visual photograph will authorize admittance to the secure area.
• AIRS monitors any changes in crew status to ensure that each pilot and flight attendant has maintained high security credentials.
