AvFinity APIS Solutions: APIS Navigator™ and APIS Connect™

AvFinity now offers two secure, reliable and easy-to-use APIS filing services to meet the needs of all airlines as well as business jet operators and corporate flight departments.

APIS Navigator™

APIS Navigator™ is AvFinity flagship APIS product for airlines with a dedicated DCS/RES system. With this longtime AvFinity service, our software technology integrates into a large airline’s backend office system and captures and securely transmits passenger information machine to machine. APIS Navigator has been operating continuously since 2010 handling millions of characters of data every day for many large scheduled carriers.

APIS Connect™

APIS Connect™ is AvFinity’s product for airlines that lack a DCS/RES system that utilizes spreadsheets for automation of APIS filings. AvFinity developed its new service for low-volume and non-scheduled international carriers and business jet operators. APIS Connect files passenger and crew manifests from almost any source: XML, web browsers and tabular data, including comma-delimited spreadsheets, to name a few. It is a service that makes compliance with APIS easy for smaller carriers without any additional capital investment.

APIS Connect™ is available as a 30-day trial. Please contact sales@avfinity.com for more information.

With both AvFinity APIS services, users also enjoy many unique benefits that have made AvFinity’s solutions stand out in all sectors of the transportation industry:

  • Seamless data handling.
  • Direct, secure, high-speed connections to:
    • U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
    • Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)
    • CARICOM
    • The United Kingdom’s e-Borders
  • Option to modify the data’s format automatically to meet government requirements
  • Alerts if common errors and omissions appear on manifest data
  • User interface to monitor message delivery and see in real time APIS filings with errors, rejection, or non-delivery
  • Return acknowledgments in real time from border authorities that report status
  • Relief from inefficient, unreliable and non-secure e-mail and costly legacy messaging providers

APIS Navigator™

It’s a priority, for both commercial and general aviation, to comply with passenger and crew data submissions known as Advance Passenger Information System (API or APIS). Unlike legacy provider approaches that use existing data switching networks to send this prioritized information, AvFinity’s APIS Navigator™ solution offers a direct connection to border authorities, with assured delivery and confirmation.

AvFinity currently directly connects to the following government agencies for APIS:

  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection
  • Canada Border Services Agency
  • CARICOM (the Caribbean Community)
  • e-Borders (the United Kingdom)

AvFinity has the distinction of being the first provider in the world authorized by CBP to file APIS via an IBM® WebSphere® MQ direct connection for both commercial and private aviation. Our expert knowledge of WebSphere MQ and its application to aviation means APIS data flows from the airline or commercial flight department to CBP over a cost-effective, robust, high-speed, high-security APIS messaging network with zero chance of getting lost.

Airlines that use AvFinity to file in Canada receive all the assured message delivery benefits of the IBM® WebSphere® MQ protocol connection without shouldering CBSA’s mandatory connection fee or its annual cost required to maintain the individual MQ connection. The AvFinity solution saves an international airline with Canadian flights thousands of dollars a year in direct connection costs alone.

Here’s what else APIS Navigator can do for aviation companies:

  • Filing of batch APIS submissions
  • Filing of APIS Quick Query (AQQ) submissions
  • Option to file batch APIS submissions to AQQ

APIS Navigator benefits include:

  • Backend integration to retrieve passenger and crew data collected and stored, without any further handling required
  • Data conversion from any format into the UN/EDIFACT format, XML or Type B as required by the individual government authority
  • Data inspection to check for errors before submission, reducing the risk of costly fines
  • Cost savings as a result of IP efficiencies and flat fee pricing model
  • Easy-to-track manifest status through color-coded logs on a secure user page accessible through the AvFinity web site

APIS Navigator provides today’s aviation companies with the advanced tools needed to comply with increasing and evolving government regulations. Only AvFinity can offer the flexibility, robustness and reliability you need to take control over your communication systems.

APIS Connect™

Airlines with infrequent or non-scheduled international flights now can use AvFinity’s APIS Connect™ to enjoy all the benefits of AvFinity’s direct connection to CBP, CBSA, CARICOM and e-Borders just as growing numbers of larger airlines do.

With APIS Connect, smaller airlines manually enter passenger and crew manifests or simply deliver them off their spreadsheet in comma-delimited (.csv) or Microsoft Excel (.xls) format. AvFinity’s patented software technology then converts the data to the required UN/EDIFACT format.

From there, AvFinity’s APIS Connect sends the data over secure lines—via the assured delivery and message non-repudiation capabilities of the IBM® WebSphere® MQ communications protocol—to government border agencies with advanced connectivity capabilities. That represents a huge advance in reliability, efficiency and security for airlines that currently use non-secure e-mail or unreliable, expensive Type B networks to file APIS.

Other airline benefits provided by AvFinity’s APIS Connect include:

  • No additional capital expenditures to switch the airline from its current system to APIS Connect
  • A monthly flat fee rather than varying character costs when using legacy messaging providers
  • Data conversion from a .csv or .xls spreadsheet into the UN/EDIFACT format, XML or Type B as required by the individual government authority
  • Data inspection to check for errors before submission, reducing the risk of costly fines
  • Easy-to-track manifest status through color-coded logs on a secure user page accessible through the AvFinity web site
